"Moving to Colorado Springs in 2026."

Describe what’s in the image

The Pull of the Foothills

We were looking for a fresh start—less noise, more open space, and a community we actually felt part of. Like many others, we found ourselves drawn to Colorado Springs. In 2026, it’s a city that balances rapid growth with a rugged, mountain-front soul. We wanted to live smarter, cheaper than Denver, and outdoors more. Here is the short version of what we found.

Where (and How) We Live

Colorado Springs is the gateway to the mountains, right at the base of Pikes Peak (over 14,000 ft). We are about 75 miles south of Denver—a different vibe, less crowded, but still connected by I-25. It’s high-elevation (6,000 ft), dry, and sunny—boasting over 300 days of sunshine a year. That weather defines the lifestyle here; snow melts fast, summers are comfortable, and people are always running, biking, or patio-dining.

Stability and Service

This isn't just a mountain town; it's a strategically vital center. The Springs is deeply rooted in military service, home to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, and U.S. Space Command. This connection provides incredible economic stability. It’s also Olympic City USA, home to elite training facilities and a vibrant, ambitious energy that reflects its famous landmarks like the stunning red rocks of Garden of the Gods.

Jobs, Costs, and Homes

We worried about opportunity, but the job market in 2026 is robust, diversifying far beyond defense into high-tech sectors like aerospace (Lockheed, Northrop), cybersecurity, and healthcare.
Cost of living is no longer 'cheap,' but it offers a compelling value proposition compared to Denver or coastal cities. Housing is the biggest cost, with values rising steadily due to high demand and relentless growth. The city is booming eastward, where new master-planned communities offer modern suburbs, while older neighborhoods provide character near the rejuvenated downtown.

Navigating and Enjoying

You will need a car—this is a car-dependent city. While major arteries like I-25 and Powers Blvd are getting essential upgrades, commuting and growth are constant topics.
But once your commute is done, the access to nature is unmatched. Minutes from almost any neighborhood, you are hiking, biking, or exploring canyons. The cultural scene is catching up too, with a lively downtown, the unique Olympic & Paralympic Museum, and a thriving craft brewery culture. It's a place where work-life balance is prioritized.

Is it Right For You?

If you are moving from an expensive market and craving value, space, and a community that genuinely loves the outdoors, Colorado Springs is a top choice in 2026. It’s growing up fast, but it hasn’t lost its grounded, foothill spirit. We found exactly what we were looking for: a stable, active place to build a life.
